#1 THE MADNESS OF ALBANIA
There is no other place like this, especially its essence. Where else can you see a man get on a bus with a hot cob in his pocket, or hundreds of unused bunkers on the sides of the road, or horse-drawn carts as the main means of transportation? Where else can you stuff yourself with cupcakes for € 1 and then climb a concrete pyramid in the center of the capital? Albania is pure madness. You will love it!
#2 THE CATHEDRAL OF ALEXANDER NEVSKY OF SOFIA
If in front of the Cathedral of San Saba in Belgrade, you will be amazed with its beauty. On the outside, it looks normal. However, inside the building, it hides a world made of icons, candles, and prayers.
#3 SPLIT'S DIOCLETIAN PALACE
The Diocletian's palace is located in the coastal city of Split, but do not imagine a normal palace. Diocletian's palace is like a whole historical center! This small citadel is surrounded by walls and behind them are the major attractions of the city. It ranges from the Peristyle to the cellars passing through beautiful squares and narrow streets. It feels like you are anchored in another time dimension.
The Palace of Diocletian is so beautiful. That is why, this place have been shot for several scenes in Game of Thrones (Don’t worry, there is no dragon here).
Near the place, you will find Sveti Stefan. It was a fishing village as early as the 15th century . In the 1950s the last residents were expelled and this small island became a luxury hotel, the most exclusive of the coast of Montenegro.
#4 RICH CULINARY ADVENTURE
Your 3 culinary essentials in the Balkans will be:
· Cevapi: It is a minced meat and spiced sausage (the last time I defined them as sausages I fell a row). The best place to eat it is Sarajevo, without a doubt!
· Burek: salted cakes with different fillings (meat, spinach and cheese, potatoes ...)
· Baklava: a cupcake of Ottoman origin full of calories and happiness (at each bite, the endorphins rise to the limit, I swear).
#5 THE CITY OF OHRID
There will be crystal clear waters on its lake. The fortress is on the top of the hill. The charming Byzantine churches and perhaps, street cats are a common view. There are also teahouses where to drink Turkish tea and eat baklava. Whatever it is, Ohrid has a special aroma that makes Macedonia be an essential stop on a trip through the Balkans.
#6 THE LAKE OF BLED
One of the icons of Slovenia, Lake Bled is one of those places that leaves no one indifferent. Here, you can navigate through its green and fresh waters until you reach its central islet. You can also climb the castle of Bled to have the best panoramic. Perhaps, you should also walk along the lake (much better while enjoying a Bled-cake, an exquisite cream pie).
#7 DUBROVNIK, WHOLE ENTERITA
It has many flaws, or rather it has a big one: tourists. It has too many tourists. However, you cannot miss this beautiful Croatian walled city. Thanks to its walls, the beaches to their corners full of charm and its wide history. You will forget about the hundreds of other tourists who visit there. Dubrovnik is beautiful to rage.
#8 MOSTAR
Mostar is a city with a sad history behind it. Today, it is one of the most visited spots in the area. The reason? The bridge, it is the symbol of an absurd war. Exploring the historical center, climbing the minaret of the Koski Mehmed Paša mosque, crossing its famous bridge, and walking with the puppies of the place will be unforgettable. If you have time, you can go to the nearby village of Blagaj. It is famous for its beautiful dervish monastery. You will also find Castle Galore in Balkans here.
However, it is just the beginning, there are other countries such as Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia await to explore!
#9 SARAJEVO
Sarajevo suffered a lot but was reborn from its ashes like a phoenix. It has multicultural, and surprising views. You will forget a time to return!
In Sarajevo, the night life similar as in Tirana will take you to the new hype. There are many local bars and Nightclubs opening for tourists!
#10 KOTOR MON AMOUR
The Bay of Kotor is an authentic natural wonder. You will even think about moving to live in a house by the. The center of Kotor looks like a small Dubrovnik (tourists included) and if you feel like climbing a few steps. We advise you to go to the fortress of San Juan to enjoy the best views. Essential: visit the nearby village of Perast.
#11 Bulgaria: World Heritage, mountains, beaches
Other than the sun and golden beach, you will find numerous great place worth a visit. Bulgaria has a number of attractions, especially inland, such as the Rilac Monastery, the beautiful old town of Plovdiv, the Fort and Old Town of Veliko Tarnovo, the seven Rila Lakes, the ski resort of Bansko and, of course, the multifaceted capital Sofia.
The Bulgarian Black Sea coast has more attractions to offer than Sunny Beach/Golden Sands, cheap alcohol and party - Sozopol & Nessebar are among the oldest cities in the country, the historic old towns are idyllically located and worth seeing.
Varna, on the other hand, is one of the largest cities in the country and correspondingly urban - here it is advisable to drive a bit out of the city, eg to Raponggi Beach. In addition, the coast north of Varna is particularly recommended.
The Bulgarian Black Sea coast offers not only party but also idyllic spots.
#12 MACEDONIA
Skopje is only a few hours by bus east of Bulgaria. There is a daily transport to Sofia which is quite cheap. The city itself has over 2,000 years of settlement history and offers many attractions from different eras.
In addition to the capital you should also remember to visit the Ohrid lake. The lake and the city Ohrid are among the most popular attractions in the country!
#13 MONTENEGRO
Okay, let's move westwards and to the Mediterranean. The coast of Montenegro will simply overwhelm you. The individual coastal towns are easy to reach by car or bus and the currency of the country is, one can hardly believe, the euro. If you stay away from the tourist strongholds, the prices are also low.
